The first idea for OILL was born in 2018. I started by customizing my own clothes - mainly shoes and denim jackets - through distressing and painting on them. During this process, I often crossed things out, like words or symbols. At first, I simply liked the look, but I soon realized that crossing out a word or sentence could completely change its meaning.
When searching for a brand name, I struggled to find one that combined its own meaning with the concept of crossing something out. That moment led to the creation of OILL.
OILL stands for creating meaningfulness for those who desire it most. Mark your cross. OX.
The name itself has multiple layers. OILL originates from my last name, Oellig, but it also connects to “oil” as a product. Oil is rare, yet essential - almost everyone in the world depends on it. In the same way, OILL is meant to create a deep-rooted desire and emotional connection.
“Mark your cross” represents a checklist of everything you want to achieve and desire. It connects back to the brand’s philosophy and balances with the name itself, as the “O” represents the circle you cross on a checklist.
OILL is about creating meaningfulness for those who seek it most.
